ACCESS POLICE RECoRDS AND INFORMATION
The Cornwall Police Service is committed to protecting the personal information of all individuals. Provincial and federal laws govern public access to police records and information. Depending on the type of record, different application processes and access restrictions may apply.
Process to Make an Access to Information Request
NOTE: For access to records related to motor vehicle collisions or property crime, please follow this link.
Under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) individuals can request access to any record held by CPS. This includes your personal information and the information of others with their written consent.
You will be required to complete the Access / Correction Request Form.
Please mail the form, a legible photocopy of one piece of valid photo identification and the $5.00 application fee in the form of a cheque/money order to:

Note: the cheque/money order should be made payable to ‘Cornwall Police Service’.
Alternatively, the application can also be submitted in-person between the hours of 08:00am and 3:30pm, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Cash, debit and credit are accepted.

How long does a request take?
Your request will be responded to within 45 business days, as legislated.
Will I have access to the full record?
This depends on what is being requested and whether or not anyone else is involved in the incident. The personal information of other individuals will be not be released to you unless consent from those individuals is provided. Requests are processed in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
What information am I entitled to as a landlord?
As a landlord, you have access to information about the property. For example, if you reported a break and enter, theft or mischief to your property, you would have access to portions a report describing property damage (note: some exceptions may apply, particularly if the investigation is ongoing or the matter is before the court).
If you are seeking copies of reports involving your tenants where no property damage was noted by police, consent from your tenants is required.
