YOUTH IN POLICING INITIATIVE (YIPI) – CLASS OF 2024

The following eight students are representing the Cornwall Police Service this summer in the Youth In Policing Initiative (YIPI).

Haevyn Boileau

The 16-year-old recently completed Grade 10 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Secondary School in Cornwall.

Boileau began learning how to play guitar, and enjoys listening to music, camping, watching movies and hanging out with friends.

She would love to pursue a career in law enforcement; she is specifically interested in working in the sexual assault unit.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how all the different units (at the CPS) work and what they do,” said Boileau. “I’m also looking forward to working in the community and helping to make it better.”

Takoda Dickenson-MacDermid

The 15-year-old recently completed Grade 9 at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School in Cornwall.

Dickenson-MacDermid enjoys taking walks, hanging out with friends and playing video games.

He would love to have a career as a police officer or a comparable occupation in law enforcement.

“I’m looking forward to learning about how police and law enforcement work,” said Dickenson-MacDermid. “Also, handling firearms would be a fun experience for me.”

Muhammad Hasheer

The 15-year-old recently completed Grade 10 at St. Lawrence Secondary School in Cornwall.

Hasheer is quite active and enjoys playing sports (basketball, soccer and badminton) as well as running in races, kayaking and swimming. Additionally, he enjoys going on car rides and hanging out with friends and family.

He is excited to take part in the YIPI program at the CPS, and would love to one day pursue a career in policing.

“I am looking to get a better understanding of law enforcement,” said Hasheer.

Rabiya Khan

The 17-year-old recently completed Grade 11 at Cornwall Collegiate & Vocational School.

Khan loves playing badminton and spending time with friends and family as well as travelling to different places and experiencing a variety of cultures. Additionally, she loves writing, listening to music and visiting the dock near her house. 

Kahn would like to pursue a career in law enforcement and hopes the YIPI program will help prepare her to meet her future goals.

“I am looking forward to meeting a lot of people and helping them,” she said. “I look forward to the court visits and the training that comes within the duration of the program.”

Kyler Lauzon

The 15-year-old recently completed Grade 9 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Secondary School in Cornwall.

Lauzon enjoys playing sports, particularly basketball and baseball, and also loves swimming and fishing. Additionally, he loves watching television shows about police.

Lauzon would like to have a career in policing and hopes to branch out to a SWAT or K9 unit.

“I am looking forward to the experience and activities of the YIPI program and to learn and have fun,” he said.

Rebecca Marleau

The 16-year-old recently completed Grade 11 at Cornwall Collegiate & Vocational School.

Marleau loves playing sports, particularly soccer. She has played for the Blazers with the Seaway Valley Soccer Club for the past five seasons. Additionally, Marleau enjoys camping and spending time outdoors in nature.

After high school, she’d like to pursue a career as a police officer.

“I’m looking most forward to meeting as many people as I can and getting as much information about their jobs,” said Marleau. “I’ve always had a passion for law enforcement, so I feel this job is a perfect fit for my future.”

Alexander Moussa

The 16-year-old recently completed Grade 10 at Cornwall Collegiate & Vocational School.

Moussa loves playing sports, especially basketball and football. He also enjoys playing video games as well as the occasional weekend Airsoft match.

Moussa would like to pursue a career in law enforcement once he graduates from high school.

“The thing I am looking forward to the most is gaining important knowledge and experiences during my time with the YIPI program,” he said.

Muhammad Okasha

The 17-year-old recently completed Grade 10 at St. Lawrence Secondary High School.

Okasha enjoys studying geographical books and reading about different cultures. He also loves playing soccer – he was named most valuable player from his high school team last season.

He would like to pursue a career in which he is able to help people and seek justice for them. He has his sights set on being either a lawyer, police officer or prime minister.

“The opportunities that are being offered to me by Cornwall Police, like engaging with the community and (developing) leadership skills, are definitely what I’m looking forward to the most with YIPI,” he said. “The YIPI program will really help me think about my future and (figure out) exactly I want.”
