FRAUD OVER $5000

Cornwall, ON – Chantal Benoit-Clark, 49, of Cornwall was arrested on May 8th, 2023 and charged with fraud over $5000. It is alleged between December 2020 and May 2023, the woman defrauded three individuals known to her of funds exceeding $5000 by withholding their cash for herself while assisting the individuals with withdrawals from their bank accounts. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On May 8th, 2023, she was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on June 6th, 2023.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 17-year-old Long Sault youth was arrested on May 8th, 2023 and charged with breach of release order for being within a certain distance of someone. He was also charged with breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on May 5th, 2023, the youth attended the school of someone he has conditions not to be around. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On May 8th, 2023, the youth attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date. The name of the youth was not released as per provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – An 18-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on May 8th, 2023 and charged with domestic assault. It is alleged during an altercation with his girlfriend on May 6th, 2023, the man assaulted her and police were contacted to investigate. On May 8th, 2023, the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on May 30th, 2023. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

WARRANT, POSSESSION OF PROPERTY OBTAINED BY CRIME, OBSTRUCT POLICE, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Sydney Oakes, 30, of Ottawa was arrested on May 8th, 2023 on the strength of a warrant. She was also charged with possession of property obtained by crime, obstruct police, breach of release order for attending Cornwall, as well as breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on May 31st, 2022, the woman failed to attend court for a drug trafficking offence and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On May 8th, 2023, police located the woman, at which time she provided a false name to police. She was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a stolen cheque. She was charged accordingly and held in custody to await a bail hearing.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 54-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on May 8th, 2023 and charged with domestic assault. It is alleged on May 7th, 2023, the man assaulted his wife and police were contacted to investigate. On May 8th, 2023, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on May 30th, 2023. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.
