NO CHARGES WARRANTED IN RECENT CRIMINAL HARASSMENT INVESTIGATION

Cornwall, ON – On October 2nd, 2020, the Cornwall Police Service (CPS) issued a news release which included the arrest of a 54-year-old Cornwall woman, Shelly Richardson, who had been charged with uttering threats and criminal harassment.

Upon further investigation, the charges in this incident were deemed unwarranted, as no criminal offence had occurred. As such, the above-noted criminal charges are no longer being pursued in relation to this incident.

SHOPLIFTING, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Edward Steptoe, 41, of Cornwall was arrested on October 8th, 2020 and charged with theft under $5000 and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on September 21st, 2020, the man attended a Ninth Street business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the item as he left the store. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On October 8th, 2020, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

THREATS, RESIST POLICE, ESCAPE LAWFUL CUSTODY

Cornwall, ON – Luc Dostie, 39, of Cornwall was arrested on October 8th, 2020 and charged with uttering threats, escape lawful custody and resist police. It is alleged on October 4th, 2020, the man made threats to kill someone known to him and police were contacted to investigate. On October 8th, 2020, police located the man and took him into custody, at which time he resisted police and fled from their custody. After a brief struggle, police were able to take custody of the man. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

ROBBERY, ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT INDICTABLE OFFENCE, POSSESSION OF A WEAPON FOR A DANGEROUS PURPOSE

Cornwall, ON – Martika Smoke-Thompson, 30, of Cornwall was arrested on October 8th, 2020 and charged with the following:

·         Robbery

·         Assault with a weapon

·         Conspiracy to commit indictable offence

·         Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

It is alleged on October 1st, the woman, along with someone else, attended the residence of someone known to her and assaulted the victim with a hammer and took several items belonging to the victim. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On October 8th, 2020, the woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 29th, 2020.

SHOPLIFTING, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Brika Henophy, 36, of Cornwall was arrested on October 8th, 2020 and charged with theft under $5000 and breach of undertaking for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on October 8th, 2020, the woman attended a Brookdale Avenue business and removed merchandise, making no attempt to pay for the items as she left the store. She was stopped by store security and police were contacted. During the investigation, she was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

THREATS X 2, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 20-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on October 8th, 2020 and charged with two counts of uttering threats and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on September 24th, 2020, the man made threats to harm his ex-girlfriend and another person known to him. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On October 8th, 2020, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 15th, 2020. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Andrea Costanzi, 42, of Russell was arrested on October 8th, 2020 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man failed to attend for fingerprints on July 28th, 2020 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On October 8th, 2020, the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and released to appear in court on December 15th, 2020.

IMPAIRED OPERATION, DANGEROUS OPERATION

Cornwall, ON – Robert Pullman, 33, of Orleans was arrested on October 8th, 2020 and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. It is alleged on October 8th, 2020, the man was operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drug in the area of Second Street East and Prince Arthur Street, when the vehicle struck a house and a gas pole before fleeing the area. Police were contacted and located the vehicle shortly thereafter. The driver was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 15th, 2020. 

OBSTRUCT POLICE, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Justin Gibson, 21, of Cornwall was arrested on October 8th, 2020 and charged with obstruct police and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged while police were investigating an unrelated matter on October 8th, the man interfered with the investigation by failing to leave the area where police were conducting the investigation. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 15th, 2020.
