SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – Peter Garlough, 40, of Cornwall was arrested on October 20th, 2020 and charged with theft under $5000. It is alleged on August 19th, 2020, the man removed merchandise from a Pitt Street business, making no attempt to pay for the item as he left the store. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On October 20th, 2020, the man attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on December 29th, 2020.

CAUSING A DISTURBANCE, POSSESSION OF A SCHEDULE I SUBSTANCE, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Darrell Herne, 30, and Jean Mitchell, 23, both of Cornwall, were arrested on October 20th, 2020 and charged with causing a disturbance. It is alleged the two men were causing a disturbance in a public area and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, the men were taken into custody, at which time Jean Mitchell was found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine and in breach of his probation order for possessing drugs and failing to keep the peace. The men were charged accordingly and Darrell Herne was released to appear in court on December 29th, 2020 and Jean Mitchell was released to appear in court on December 15th, 2020. 

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, ASSAULT, CARRY A CONCEALED WEAPON, POSSESSION OF A WEAPON FOR A DANGEROUS PURPOSE, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 13-year-old youth was arrested on October 20th, 2020 and charged with the following:

·         Assault with a weapon

·         Assault

·         Carry a concealed weapon

·         Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

·         Breach of undertaking (for failing to abide by house rules)

It is alleged on October 20th, 2020, during an altercation with someone known to him, the youth assaulted the victim with a knife which he had been concealing. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the youth was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

BREACH

Cornwall, ON – A 19-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on October 21st, 2020 and charged with three counts of breach of probation for contacting his mother, being within 100 metres of her and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on October 21st, 2020, the man attended his mother’s residence, despite his conditions, and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.
