WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – A 26-year-old Cornwall woman was arrested on April 8th, 2021 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged during an altercation with her boyfriend on March 1st, 2021, the woman assaulted the man with a phone and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On April 8th, 2021, she was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and released to appear in court on June 22nd, 2021. Her name was not released as it would identify the victim in the matter.

ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE, UNLAWFULLY IN A DWELLING, FORCIBLE CONFINEMENT, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT AN INDICTABLE OFFENCE, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Martika Smoke-Thompson, 30, of Cornwall was arrested on April 8th, 2021 and charged with the following:

·         Robbery with violence

·         Aggravated assault

·         Unlawfully in a dwelling

·         Forcible confinement

·         Conspiracy to commit indictable offence

·         Breach of release order for failing to reside at a certain residence

It is alleged on March 30th, 2021, the woman was unlawfully in the residence of someone known to her, where she and two others committed an aggravated assault on the resident and took several electronics after preventing the victim from leaving. Police were contacted and the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation ensued and on April 8th, 2021 the woman was taken into custody. She was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – John Sawatis, 41, of Cornwall was arrested on April 8th, 2021 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man breached his probation order and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On April 8th, 2021, he was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and released to appear in court on June 15th, 2021.

DOMESTIC AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 40-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on April 8th, 2021 and charged with aggravated assault. It is alleged during an altercation with his ex-girlfriend on June 7th, 2019, the man assaulted her, causing an injury that required medical attention. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On April 8th, 2021, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held in custody for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it may identify the victim in the matter.

CRIMINAL HARASSMENT, ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, THREATS

Cornwall, ON – A 43-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on April 8th, 2021 and charged with criminal harassment, assault with a weapon and two counts of uttering threats. It is alleged the man had criminally harassed his ex-wife and further assaulted her with a candle holder. The man is also alleged to have made threats to kill the woman. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On April 8th, 2021, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on June 15th, 2021. His name was not released as it may identify the victim in the matter.
