CPS Releases 2020 Annual Report

Published on le 2 décembre 2021

Cornwall, ON – The Cornwall Police Service (CPS) is pleased to present its 2020 Annual Report.

The report was presented to the Cornwall Police Services Board at the December 2nd, 2021 meeting and subsequently approved by the Board.

“The 2020 Annual Report will provide you with insights into the impacts of the pandemic on the City of Cornwall,” said former Chair of the Police Services Board, Mayor Glen Grant. “It further reveals so many other great achievements of the Cornwall Police Service, despite having to allocate so much of their time and attention to COVID-19.”

The report highlights some of the major accomplishments of the CPS during 2020, including introducing Joy, an accredited facility dog, as a support to the community; the introduction of an Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Action Plan; as well as the successful execution of several priorities of the 2018-2020 Strategic Plan, including the development of a Vulnerable Sector Mobile Acute Response Team.

In addition, the report shares the 2020 Crime Statistics, highlighting an increase in violent crime and drug violations, while property crime and other crime categories have decreased. It is suspected that the 2021 Annual Report, to be posted in the New Year, may once again reflect these crime categories to be on the rise, with the reopening of the province.

“The 2020 Annual Report will reveal a unique presentation of crime trends that are a reflection of the climate of our community during the pandemic,” said Chief of Police Shawna Spowart. “We must prepare to navigate the state of our community post-pandemic, in order to continue to provide members of the public, victims of crime and those suffering from mental health concerns and addictions with the necessary level of service and assistance they require.”

The CPS welcomes members of the public to read the 2020 Annual Report, which serves as an important method of reporting back to the community.
