22-YEAR-OLD CORNWALL MAN RECEIVES 84 CHARGES FOR VARIOUS BREAK AND ENTER AND FRAUD-RELATED OFFENCES

Cornwall, ON – As a result of an ongoing investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, a 22-year-old Cornwall man has been arrested and charged for his involvement with numerous break and enter, thefts, and fraud-related incidents in the City of Cornwall.

Robert Avery, 22, of Cornwall was arrested on July 6th, 2021 on the strength of a warrant and charged as follows:

  • Break and enter x 9
  • Fraud under $5000 x 12
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance (methamphetamine) x 2
  • Possession of break-in instruments x 2
  • Unlawful possession of a credit card x 2
  • Unlawful use of credit card x 12
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 x 12
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 x 2
  • Theft of a motor vehicle x 2
  • Theft under $5000
  • Breach of probation x 27 (for possessing weapons, possessing drugs and failing to keep the peace)
  • Breach of release order (for possessing weapons)

It is alleged between May and June, the man forced his way into multiple storage lockers and removed property that did not belong to him. It is further alleged the man had taken two motor vehicles, as well as used a bank card that was located in one of the vehicles to make several transactions. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued.

During the investigation, police conducted a search of the man’s residence and located a quantity of stolen property that had been reported to police, including power tools, jewellery, a cheque book and other items. In addition, a quantity of methamphetamine was located.

On July 6th, 2021 police located the man and took him into custody on the strength of the warrant, at which time he was found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine, break-in tools, as well as an edged weapon. The warrant was executed and he was held for a bail hearing.

Kelly Whitney, 51, of Smith Falls and Storm Atsma, 29, of Ottawa were also charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 as part of the investigation, as they were also allegedly in possession of stolen property from the incidents. Storm Atsma was charged additionally with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 as he was in possession of a stolen vehicle. Both individuals were taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on September 21st, 2021.

 WARRANT, POSSESSION OF A SCHEDULE I SUBSTANCE, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Colin McDonald, 30, of Cornwall was arrested on July 7th, 2021 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man failed to attend court on May 12th, 2021 for a drug offence and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On July 7th, 2021, police located the man and took him into custody on the strength of the warrant, at which time he was found to be in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Ryan Whitford, 27, of Cornwall was arrested on July 7th, 2021 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the man breached his probation order and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On July 7th, 2021, he was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and released to appear in court on September 21st, 2021.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Katlen Moore, 29, of Cornwall was arrested on July 7th, 2021 on the strength of a warrant for breaching her conditional sentence order. She was also charged with the following:

  • Theft under $5000 x 2
  • Breach of probation x 4 (for failing to keep the peace and possessing alcohol)
  • Breach of release order x 4 (for failing to keep the peace and failing to abide by conditions of her conditional sentence order)

It is alleged on July 7th, 2021, the woman attended two Second Street business and removed a quantity of alcohol, making no attempt to pay for the items as she left the stores. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, she was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
