SEARCH WARRANT LEADS TO SEIZURE OF APPROXIMATELY $18,500.00 IN ILLICIT DRUGS

Cornwall, ON – Larry Labelle, 46, of Cornwall was arrested on June 7th, 2023 and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cocaine x 2
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Cannabis resin (Hash)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Unlawfully in a dwelling house

On the morning of June 7th, 2023, members of the Cornwall Police Service executed a search warrant at a Second Street residence. During a search of the residence, police located a quantity of fentanyl, hash, two forms of cocaine, as well as a number of stolen items. The estimated value of the seized drugs is approximately $18,500.00. It is further alleged the man had been unlawfully in the residence. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on July 18th, 2023.

CARRYING A CONCEALED WEAPON, POSSESSION OF A WEAPON FOR A DANGEROUS PURPOSE, POSSESSION OF A SCHEDULE I SUBSTANCE, OBSTRUCT POLICE, PERSONATION WITH INTENT TO AVOID ARREST, BREACH

Cornwall, ON – Wayde Czapski, 45, of no-fixed-address was arrested on June 7th, 2023 and charged with the following:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance
  • Obstruct police x 2
  • Personation with intent to avoid arrest
  • Breach of release order x 2 (for possessing a weapon and failing to report to his Bail Supervision Program)

It is alleged on June 7th, 2023, while police were conducting scene security for an unrelated investigation, the man refused to comply with police commands and continued to enter the premises. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, at which time the man provided the name of someone else to police and was found to be in possession of a quantity of fentanyl and an edged weapon. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 12-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on June 7th, 2023 and charged with assault. It is alleged during an altercation with another youth known to him, he assaulted the youth and police were contacted. On June 7th, 2023, the youth attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date. The name of the youth was not released per provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

WARRANT

Cornwall, ON – Melanie Malette, 38, of Cornwall was arrested on June 7th, 2023 on the strength of a warrant. It is alleged the woman repeatedly contacted and harassed someone known to her in January 2023. Police were contacted and a warrant was issued for her arrest. On June 7th, 2023, she was taken into custody on the strength of the warrant and released to appear in court on July 13th, 2023.

BREAK AND ENTER

Cornwall, ON – Damian Cayer, 20, of Cornwall was arrested on June 7th, 2023 and charged with break and enter. It is alleged on February 21st, 2023, the man entered a closed Pitt Street facility and removed a quantity of cash. With the assistance of the CPS Forensic Identification Unit, the suspect was identified. On June 7th, 2023, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on July 18th, 2023.

POSSESSION OF PROPERTY OBTAINED BY CRIME OVER $5000, POSSESSION OF A SCHEDULE I SUBSTANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF TRAFFICKING

Cornwall, ON – A 17-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on June 7th, 2023 and charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. It is alleged during a traffic stop on June 7th, the youth was found to be in possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He was taken into custody, at which time he was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine. He was charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date. His name was not released as per provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON, ADMINISTER NOXIOUS THING, POSSESSION OF A WEAPON FOR A DANGEROUS PURPOSE, THREATS

Cornwall, ON – A 16-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested on June 7th, 2023 and charged with assault with a weapon, administer noxious thing, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and uttering threats. It is alleged on June 7th, during an altercation with a man known to him, he assaulted him with bear spray and further made threats to harm him. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, he was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court at a later date. His name was not released per provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Cornwall, ON – Sexual Human Trafficking is defined as, “Every person who recruits, transports, transfers, holds, conceals or harbours a person, or exercises control, direction or influence over the movements of a person, for the purpose of sexually exploiting them or facilitating their sexual exploitation.”

Human Trafficking for a sexual purpose is a heinous crime that can render the victim with horrifying physical, social and emotional scars.
