CPS CONFIRMS HOMICIDE/SUICIDE IN SHOOTING DEATHS
Cornwall, ON – The Cornwall Police Service (CPS) continues to investigate a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.
At approximately 2:07 p.m., CPS officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400-block of Leitch Drive in response to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located three individuals, all known to one another, who had sustained injuries.
As a result of investigation, the CPS has determined that the 81-year-old resident of the Leitch Drive home shot his 80-year-old ex-partner and her 83-year-old male friend before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both males succumbed to their injuries, while the female continues to be treated for serious injuries.
The firearm involved in the incident was recovered.
Investigators have determined this to be an incident of intimate partner violence, and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
No further information will be released.
“This is a deeply tragic situation,” said Chief of Police Shawna Spowart. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those affected during this very difficult time.”
