Media Release - April 17, 2026

IMITATION FIREARM USED IN ROBBERY; TWO INDIVIDUALS CHARGED

Cornwall, ON – On April 16, 2026, members of the Cornwall Police Service were dispatched to a robbery complaint, and an investigation ensued.

A 19-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Robbery with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Imitation firearm – use while committing offence

It is alleged on April 16, 2026, the man was bound by a youth probation order with the relevant condition to not possess any weapons. It is further alleged he pointed what was believed to be a firearm at an individual known to him and committed a robbery.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old Cornwall youth was arrested and charged with robbery with a weapon. It is alleged the youth stole the victim’s cell phone during the incident.

Police were contacted and an investigation ensued – led by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). Through the investigation, officers developed reasonable and probable grounds to arrest both individuals.

Later on April 16, 2026, members of the CPS, led by the CID and the Cornwall Emergency Response Team (CERT), executed a search warrant in the area of First Street East and McConnell Avenue, where the individuals were subsequently located.

Further investigation determined the weapon involved was an imitation firearm.

The 19-year-old man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

The 16-year-old youth was also taken into custody, charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and released to appear in court at a later date.

FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – A 30-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on April 16, 2026, and charged with fail to comply with probation order and fail to comply with release order. It is alleged on March 16, 2026, the woman was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour as well as a release order with the relevant condition to report o the bail supervision program. It is further alleged on this date, she failed to report to the bail supervision program. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for her arrest. On April 16, 2026, the woman was taken into custody by members of the Ontario Provincial Police and subsequently turned over to the CPS. She was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 60-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on April 16, 2026, and charged with theft under $5,000 – shoplifting. It is alleged on April 9, 2026, the man attended a Ninth Street West business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for his arrest. On April 16, 2026, the man was located by CPS officers, who were dealing with a separate matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – A 39-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on April 16, 2026, and charged with three counts of fail to comply with probation order. It is alleged on April 13, 2026, the man was bound by a probation order with the relevant conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, to not contact or communicate with his mother and to not be within 100 metres of her home. It is further alleged on this date, the man attended his mother’s residence and communicated with her. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest. On April 16, 2026, the man was located by a CPS officer, who was on general patrol in the City of Cornwall. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

SHOPLIFTING, FAIL TO ATTEND, BREAK AND ENTER, FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – A 45-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on April 16, 2026, on the strength of outstanding warrants and additionally charged with fail to comply with undertaking and theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

It is alleged on March 24, 2025, the man attended a Ninth Street West business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued – led by a Community Safety Officer. As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

It is alleged on May 20, 2025, the man attended a Ninth Street West business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the item. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

It is alleged on June 3, 2025, the man was scheduled to attend court and failed to do so. A warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of fail to attend court – as per undertaking.

It is alleged on July 14, 2025, the man broke into a Vincent Massey Drive business. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of break and enter a place – commit indictable offence.

It is alleged on Feb. 19, 2026, the man was bound by an undertaking with the relevant condition to not attend a specific Second Street East business. It is further alleged on this date, the man attended the Second Street East business he was prohibited from visiting, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest.

On April 16, 2026, the man was located by police. The warrants were executed, he was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY, UTTERING THREATS

Cornwall, ON – A 36-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on April 17, 2026, and charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order and one count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. In the early morning hours of April 17, 2026, police were dispatched to the area of Ninth Street West for a threat’s complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the man was bound by two separate probation orders, each with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is further alleged on this date, he threatened to stab and rob the complainant. The man was subsequently located by CPS officers. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on May 26, 2026.
