Media Release - April 20, 2026

CRIMINAL HARASSMENT

Cornwall, ON – A 64-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on April 17, 2026, on the strength of an outstanding warrant. On June 4, 2024, a Cornwall Police Service officer was dispatched to a historical harassment complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged the man constantly followed a woman known to him, causing her to fear for her safety. As a result of the investigation, a warrant was issued for the man’s arrest on the charge of criminal harassment – repeatedly follow, repeatedly communicate with, watch and beset, threatening conduct. On April 17, 2026, he was located by a CPS officer, who was on general patrol in the City of Cornwall. The warrant was executed and the man was held for a bail hearing.

IMPAIRED, OVER 80

Cornwall, ON – A 64-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on April 17, 2026, and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). On the evening of April 17, 2026, a CPS officer observed a motor vehicle being driven in an unsafe manner. The officer initiated a traffic stop, and an investigation ensued. The investigation revealed the man was allegedly operating his motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on May 7, 2026.

FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – A 33-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on April 17, 2026, and charged with fail to comply with release order. It is alleged on April 17, 2026, the man was bound by a release order with the relevant condition to report to the CPS every Friday between specific hours. It is further alleged he failed to do so. The man later attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on May 21, 2026.

IMPAIRED, REFUSAL, POSSESSION OF SCHEDULE I SUBSTANCE

Cornwall, ON – A 49-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on April 17, 2026, and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol  
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance – other drugs

On April 17, 2026, police were dispatched to a report of a possible impaired driver, and an investigation ensued. The woman was subsequently located by police, and the investigation revealed she was allegedly operating her motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. While police were conducting an impaired operation investigation, the woman allegedly refused to comply with the demand to complete a standardized field sobriety test. Further investigation revealed she was in possession of a Schedule I substance. The woman was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on May 7, 2026.

ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 67-year-old man from Long Sault was arrested on April 17, 2026, and charged with two counts of assault. On April 17, 2026, police were dispatched to a Brookdale Avenue restaurant in relation to a disturbance, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the man assaulted two individuals at the restaurant. He was located by police, taken into custody and charged accordingly. The man was held in custody until he was sober and fit for release.

FAIL TO COMPLY, ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 37-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on April 18, 2026, and charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order and two counts of assault. On April 17, 2026, police were dispatched to an assault complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on April 15, 2026, the woman was bound by two separate probation orders, each with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is further alleged on this date, the woman assaulted an individual known to her on two separate occasions. As a result of the investigation, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for her arrest. On April 18, 2026, the woman was located by a CPS officer, who was on general patrol. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on May 21, 2026.

MISCHIEF, POSSESSION PROPERTY OBTAINED BY CRIME

Cornwall, ON – A 17-year-old youth from Cornwall was arrested on April 18, 2026, and charged with mischief – destroys or damages property and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. On April 18, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to a trouble with youth complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the youth damaged property by removing a posted sign. Police subsequently located the individual, and further investigation revealed the youth was allegedly in possession of the removed property. She was taken into custody and charged accordingly under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The youth was released to appear in court at a later date.

SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 33-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on April 19, 2026, and charged with theft under $5,000 – shoplifting. It is alleged on April 19, 2026, the woman attended a Second Street East business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. The woman was taken into custody by the Loss Prevention Officer at the business and subsequently turned over to a CPS officer. She was charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on June 2, 2026.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT, MISCHIEF

Cornwall, ON – A 46-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on April 19, 2026, and charged with domestic assault and mischief – destroys or damages property. It is alleged on March 16, 2026, the man assaulted his spouse and damaged her property. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest. On April 19, 2026, the man was located by police. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on May 12, 2026.

CALLS FOR SERVICE: There were 191 calls for service in the City of Cornwall over the weekend (8 a.m. Friday to 8 a.m. today).
