FRAUD, OBTAINING BY FALSE PRETENCE, POSSESSION PROPERTY OBTAINED BY CRIME, LAUNDERING PROCEEDS OF CRIME

Cornwall, ON – A 38-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on April 21, 2026, and charged with the following:

  • Fraud over $5,000
  • Obtaining by false pretence
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Laundering proceeds of crime

On Oct. 18, 2025, a Cornwall Police Service officer was dispatched to a Second Street East business in relation to a fraud complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged the woman used deceit and false representations to defraud a City of Cornwall business of money, knowingly obtained funds through fraudulent means, possessed money believed to be the proceeds of crime, and transferred those funds in an effort to conceal or convert them, knowing they were derived from a criminal offence. As a result of the investigation, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for the woman’s arrest. On April 21, 2026, members of the CPS executed a search warrant, and she was located. The woman was taken into custody by a member of the Criminal Investigation Division, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FRAUD, DRAWING DOCUMENT WITHOUT AUTHORITY

Cornwall, ON – A 25-year-old man from Oakville, ON, was arrested on April 21, 2026, on the strength of an outstanding warrant. It is alleged on Sept. 9, 2025, the man defrauded a business in the City of Cornwall through EFT payments and created a fraudulent banking document in the business’ name. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charges of fraud over $5,000 and drawing document without authority. On April 21, 2026, the man attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on June 2, 2026.

MISCHIEF, ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 16-year-old youth from Cornwall was arrested on April 21, 2026, and charged with mischief – destroys or damages property and assault.

On April 18, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to a trouble with youth complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the youth damaged property by removing a posted sign. As a result of the investigation, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for the youth’s arrest.

Later on April 18, 2026, members of the CPS responded to an assault complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the youth assaulted an individual who was unknown to him. As a result of the investigation, police once again developed reasonable and probable grounds for his arrest.

On April 21, 2026, the youth attended police headquarters to address the matters. He was taken into custody and charged accordingly under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The youth was released to appear in court at a later date.

FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – A 25-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on April 22, 2026, and charged with three counts of fail to comply with undertaking. In the early morning hours of April 22, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to an intimate partner violence call, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the man was bound by an undertaking with the relevant conditions to not communicate with his ex-girlfriend, to not attend or be within 100 metres of his ex-girlfriend’s person, place of residence, employment or any place she may be and to not enter the areas of her residence. It is further alleged on this date, the man attended his ex-girlfriend’s residence and was in contact with the woman. He was subsequently located by CPS officers. The man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
