Media Release - Aug. 31, 2026

FAIL TO COMPLY, SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 34-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on Aug. 27, 2026, and charged with fail to comply with probation order and theft under $5,000 – shoplifting. It is alleged on June 22, 2026, the man was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is further alleged he attended a Ninth Street West business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest. On Aug. 27, 2026, the man was located by a Cornwall Police Service officer at the courthouse. He was charged accordingly and returned to cells to await a bail hearing.

BREACH OF RECOGNIZANCE, MISCHIEF

Cornwall, ON – A 37-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on Aug. 27, 2026, and charged with fail to comply with breach of recognizance and mischief under $5,000. On Aug. 27, 2026, a CPS officer was dispatched to a Ninth Street West business to investigate a mischief complaint. It is alleged on this date, the man was bound by a recognizance with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is further alleged he smashed the window of an individual’s motor vehicle. He was located by police, taken into custody and charged accordingly. The man was later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.

BREAK AND ENTER, THEFT, MISCHIEF

Cornwall, ON – A 44-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on Aug. 27, 2026, and charged with the following:

  • Break and enter a place – commit indictable offence
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Mischief over $5,000

On June 10, 2026, a CPS officer was dispatched to a Second Street East business to investigate a break and enter complaint. It is further alleged the man broke into the business and committed the indictable offences of theft and mischief by stealing property and damaging three doors. As a result of the investigation, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for his arrest. On Aug. 27, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to investigate a suspicious person complaint at a local bank. The man was located and taken into police custody. He was charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 24-year-old man from Valleyfield, QC, was arrested on Aug. 28, 2026, on the strength of an outstanding warrant. It is alleged on March 26, 2026, the man sexually assaulted a woman in the City of Cornwall. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of sexual assault. On Aug. 28, 2026, the man attended police headquarters to address the matter. The warrant was executed and he was later released to appear in court on Sept. 22, 2026.

FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – A 30-year-old man from Akwesasne was arrested on Aug. 28, 2026, and charged with the following:

  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Breach of recognizance
  • Two counts of fail to comply with release order
  • Mischief under $5,000

It is alleged on Aug. 28, 2026, the man was bound by a probation order and a recognizance, each with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He was also bound by a release order with the relevant conditions to remain in his residence at all times and be subject to GPS monitoring. It is further alleged on Aug. 28, 2026, the man attended a Thirteenth Street West establishment and cut off his ankle monitor. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. He was subsequently located and taken into custody. The man was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY, POSSESSION SCHEDULE I SUBSTANCE FOR PURPOSE OF TRAFFICKING, BREAK AND ENTER, MISCHIEF

Cornwall, ON – In the early morning hours of Aug. 29, 2026, a CPS detective was conducting general patrol in the City of Cornwall when the officer initiated a traffic stop. An investigation ensued, resulting in the following charges against the four individuals in the motor vehicle:

  • A 29-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested and charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order and one count of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. It is alleged on Aug. 29, 2026, the woman was bound by a probation order with the relevant conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and to not possess any drug paraphernalia. It is further alleged she was in possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.
  • A 31-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. It is alleged on Aug. 29, 2026, the woman was in possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.
  • A 36-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking. It is alleged on Aug. 29, 2026, the man was in possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.

Finally, a 32-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Break and enter a place – commit indictable offence
  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Four counts of fail to comply with probation order
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking

On June 18, 2026, a CPS officer was dispatched to investigate a break and enter. It is alleged the man broke into a residence, stole several items and damaged property. As a result of the investigation, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for his arrest. It is further alleged on Aug. 29, 2026, the man was in possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.

ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 40-year-old man from Williamstown was arrested on Aug. 29, 2026, and charged with assault. In the early morning hours of Aug. 29, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to a Brookdale Avenue motel for an unwanted person complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the man assaulted a woman. He was subsequently located and taken into police custody. The man was charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.

FAIL TO COMPLY, CRIMINAL HARASSMENT

Cornwall, ON – A 49-year-old man from Avonmore, ON, was arrested on Aug. 29, 2026, and charged with the following:

  • Three counts of fail to comply with probation order
  • Six counts of fail to comply with release order
  • Two counts of criminal harassment – beset and watch complainant

On Aug. 29, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to an intimate partner violence bail violation complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on June 22, 2026, and Aug. 26, 2026, the man was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, as well as a release order with the relevant conditions to not communicate in any way either directly or indirectly with his ex-spouse, to not be within 200 metres of any place he knows the woman to live, work or frequent and to reside with his surety. It is further alleged on these dates, the man attended his ex-spouse’s place of employment, watched the woman through a window and attempted to communicate with her. As a result of the investigation, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for his arrest. Later on Aug. 29, 2026, the man was located by CPS officers. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY, THEFT

Cornwall, ON – A 35-year-old woman from Akwesasne was arrested on Aug. 30, 2026, and charged with fail to comply with probation order and theft under $5,000. It is alleged on July 5, 2026, the woman was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is further alleged she attended a Ninth Street West business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued – led by an officer in the Community Patrol Support Unit. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for her arrest. On Aug. 30, 2026, the woman was located by a member of the CPS, who was on general patrol. She was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT, ASSAULT CAUSING BODILY HARM, INTIMIDATION

Cornwall, ON – A 46-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on Aug. 30, 2026, and charged with the following:

  • Domestic assault
  • Assault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
  • Intimidation – use or threatens use of violence

On Aug. 30, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to an intimate partner violence call, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the man punched and choked his spouse. It is further alleged he threatened to harm the woman if she contacted authorities. The man was located, taken into police custody and charged accordingly. He was held for a bail hearing.

SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 36-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on Aug. 30, 2026, and charged with theft under $5,000 – shoplifting. It is alleged on April 19, 2026, the man attended a Ninth Street West business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued – led by a Community Safety Officer. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest. On Aug. 30, 2026, the man was located by a CPS officer, who was on general patrol. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.

DANGEROUS OPERATION, THEFT

Cornwall, ON – A 19-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on Aug. 30, 2026, and charged with theft under $5,000 and dangerous operation. It is alleged on Aug. 20, 2026, the man operated his motor vehicle in a manner that was dangerous to the public and stole property from an individual known to him. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest. On Aug. 30, 2026, the man was located by a CPS officer, who was on general patrol. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Oct. 6, 2026.
