Media Release - June 30, 2026

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, OBSTRUCT PEACE OFFICER, ASSAULT PEACE OFFICER

Cornwall, ON – A 29-year-old man from Akwesasne was arrested on June 29, 2026, and charged with the following:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Obstruct a peace officer
  • Assault a peace officer

On June 29, 2026, Cornwall Police Service officers responded to a weapons complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged on this date, the man stabbed an individual known to him. As a result of the investigation, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest.

Later on June 29, 2026, the man was located by CPS officers and taken into custody. It is further alleged the man failed to allow himself to be searched and handcuffed and assaulted a police officer.

He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO ATTEND, SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 50-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on June 29, 2026, on the strength of outstanding warrants.

It is alleged on Dec. 30, 2025, the woman was scheduled to attend court and failed to do so. A warrant was issued for her arrest on the charge of fail to comply with appearance notice – court.

It is alleged on Jan. 8, 2025, the woman attended a Montreal Road business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the item. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. A warrant was issued for her arrest on the charge of theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

It is alleged on March 8, 2026, and March 22, 2026, the woman attended a Ninth Street West business, selected merchandise and exited the store on each occasion without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. Two warrants were issued for her arrest, each on the charge of theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

On June 29, 2026, the woman was located by members of the CPS, who were dealing with an unrelated matter. She was taken into custody, the warrants were executed and she was held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – A 19-year-old man from Toronto was arrested on June 29, 2026, and charged with fail to comply with release order. It is alleged on this date, the man was bound by a release order with the relevant condition to reside with a surety in the City of Toronto and to remain in his residence between specific hours. On June 29, 2026, the man was located by CPS officers, who were dealing with an unrelated matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY, SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 68-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on June 29, 2026, and charged with three counts of fail to comply with probation order two counts of theft under $5,000 – shoplifting.

It is alleged on Jan. 24, 2026, the man was bound by a probation order with the relevant conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and to not attend a specific Ninth Street West business. It if further alleged on this date, the man attended the Ninth Street West business he was prohibited from visiting, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest.

It is alleged on May 13, 2026, the man was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is further alleged on this date, he attended a Second Street East business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were once again developed for his arrest.

On June 29, 2026, the man was located by members of the CPS, who were dealing with an unrelated matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY, SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 36-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on June 29, 2026, and charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order and one count of theft under $5,000 – shoplifting. It is alleged on March 9, 2026, the woman was bound by a probation order with the relevant conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and to not attend a specific Ninth Street West business in the City of Cornwall. It is further alleged on this date, the woman attended the Ninth Street West business she was prohibited from visiting, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for her arrest. On June 29, 2026, the woman was located by a member of the Cornwall Police Service at the courthouse. She was charged accordingly and remained in custody to await a bail hearing.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

Cornwall, ON – A 39-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on June 29, 2026, and charged with two counts of sexual assault. On June 18, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to a sexual assault complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged in January 2021 and in June 2026, the man sexually assaulted an individual known to him. As a result of the investigation, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for his arrest. On June 29, 2026, the man attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

SEXUAL ASSAULT, ASSAULT CAUSING BODILY HARM

Cornwall, ON – A 51-year-old man from Cornwall was arrested on June 29, 2026, and charged with five counts of sexual assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm. On June 18, 2026, CPS officers were dispatched to a sexual assault complaint, and an investigation ensued. It is alleged from 2004 to 2026, the man sexually assaulted an individual known to him. It is further alleged the man strangled the victim on one occasion. As a result of the investigation, police developed reasonable and probable grounds for his arrest. On June 29, 2026, the man attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – A 37-year-old woman from Cornwall was arrested on June 29, 2026, and charged with theft under $5,000 – shoplifting. It is alleged on June 29, 2026, the woman attended a Brookdale Avenue business, selected merchandise and exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. The woman was located, taken into custody and charged accordingly. She was later released to appear in court on Aug. 11, 2026.

FAIL TO ATTEND

Cornwall, ON – A 31-year-old man from Morrisburg, ON, was arrested on June 29, 2026, and charged with fail to comply with appearance notice – fingerprinting. It is alleged on June 10, 2026, the man was scheduled to attend police headquarters for fingerprinting and failed to do so. As a result, reasonable and probable grounds were developed for his arrest. On June 29, 2026, the man attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
