CORNWALL MAN ACCIDENTALLY SHOT HIMSELF, FACES WEAPONS CHARGES
Cornwall, ON – On Nov. 4, 2024, the Cornwall Police Service responded to an ambulance assist call in the area of Easton Avenue and Danis Avenue with report of a male with a gunshot wound to his leg.
A 26-year-old Cornwall man was located with a single gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.
The investigation revealed the man was in possession of a firearm and allegedly shot himself.
As a result, Tristen Wilkins of Cornwall was arrested and charged with the following:
- Three counts of fail to comply with probation order
- Three counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
It is alleged on Nov. 4, 2024, the man was bound by a probation order with the relevant conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and to not possess any weapons. It is also alleged the man was bound by a second probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. Furthermore, it is alleged, the man was bound by three separate prohibition orders, each with the relevant condition to not possess any firearms.
On Nov. 4, 2024, it is alleged, the man was in possession of a firearm, was careless with the weapon and accidently shot himself in the leg. On Nov. 6, 2024, as the investigation continued, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and subsequently held for a bail hearing.
While weapons have been located by police – and further charges are pending – the investigation is still ongoing by members of the CPS’ Street Crime Unit.
