MAN CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED OPERATION, OPERATION CAUSING DEATH

Cornwall, ON – A 22-year-old Cornwall man is dead after a hit and run. The pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle in the early morning hours of April 3, 2025.

Members of the Cornwall Police Service responded to a suspicious person complaint at approximately 3 a.m. in the area of McConnell Avenue and an investigation ensued.

The victim was located and subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. The alleged suspect fled the area in his motor vehicle.

Officers continued their investigation, and a CPS community patrol member located the individual at approximately 5 a.m. Further investigation revealed the man was operating his motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, struck the individual with his motor vehicle and fled the scene.

As a result, a 23-year-old Akwesasne man was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Impaired operation and over 80
  • Fail to stop at accident resulting in death
  • Operation causing death

He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
