FRAUD OVER $5,000

Cornwall, ON – Members of the Cornwall Police Service arrested two individuals in relation to a fraud complaint from August.  

Khalil Hanna, 27, of St. Laurent, QC, and Aris Achraf, 31, of Montreal, were arrested on Nov. 18, 2024, and each charged with fraud over $5,000.

It is alleged on Aug. 14, 2024, the men purchased more than $5,000 worth of lottery tickets at a Montreal Road business. The transactions were later deemed fraudulent.

Police were contacted and an investigation ensued.

On Nov. 18, 2024, the individuals attended police headquarters to address the matter. They were each taken into custody, charged accordingly and later released to appear in court on Dec. 17, 2024.

FAIL TO COMPLY

Cornwall, ON – Ashton Depatie, 30, of Cornwall, was arrested on Nov. 18, 2024, and charged with four counts of fail to comply with release order. It is alleged on Nov. 11, 2024, the man was bound by a release order with the relevant conditions to not contact or communicate with specific individuals and to not be within 250 metres you know these individuals to be. It is alleged on Nov. 11, 2024, the man was observed by a member of the CPS to be in communication and within 250 metres of the specific individuals. An investigation ensued. On Nov. 18, 2024, the man attended police headquarters to address the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

FAIL TO COMPLY, SHOPLIFTING

Cornwall, ON – James Cholette, 42, of Cornwall, was arrested on Nov. 18, 2024, and charged with two counts of fail to comply with probation order and two counts of theft under $5,000. It is alleged on Oct. 13, 2024, the man was bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is also alleged on this date, he attended a Ninth Street West business, selected merchandise and left the store without making an attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. Furthermore, it is alleged on Oct. 29, 2024, the man was once again bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is alleged on this date, the man attended a Sydney Street business, selected merchandise and left the store without making an attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On Nov. 18, 2024, the man attended police headquarters to address the matters. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on Dec. 31, 2024.

There were 52 calls for service in the City of Cornwall over the last 24 hours (8 a.m. yesterday to 8 a.m. today). CPS reserves the right to not post all calls for service in order to protect the identity of the victims.
