$1.3 MILLION IN DRUGS, $300,000 CASH SEIZED IN PROJECT RESURRECTION

Cornwall, ON – Approximately $1.3 million (street value) of cocaine and more than $300,000 in cash were seized in a recent search warrant as a result of Project Resurrection.

On the morning of June 25, 2024, the Cornwall Police Service (CPS) conducted a search warrant in the area of Portland Drive, and an investigation ensued.

This investigation was a collaborative effort executed by the Street Crime Unit (SCU), Cornwall Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the CPS, along with the support of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario (CISO) as well as partner agencies consisting of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Kingston, Ottawa, Smiths Falls and Brockville Police Services.

“A substantial quantity of illicit drugs were seized during this investigation,” said Chief Shawna Spowart. “This operation is a testament to our ongoing commitment of combatting drug trafficking and protecting our community.”

Two individuals were taken into custody as a result of the investigation, and subsequent search warrants were issued.

Rene Clement, 37, of Cornwall, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Two counts of possession of prohibited device or ammunition
  • Two counts of possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

Meagan Malone, 38, of Cornwall, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Two counts of possession of prohibited device or ammunition

The investigation also revealed they were in possession of weapons as well as digital scales and packaging material. The individuals were held in custody to await a bail hearing.

“The removal of these drugs from our streets will make our neighborhoods safer and the CPS will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle drug operations and bring those responsible to justice,” said Chief Spowart.
