Media Release Regarding Hate Crime Incident Reported on July 26, 2022

Cornwall, ON - The Cornwall Police Service confirms that an active hate crime investigation has been initiated.  It is led by an investigator from the Criminal Investigation Division specifically trained on hate crime investigations. 

As reported at our May, 2022, Board meeting, approximately 66% of hate based incidents are not reported to police.   Since 2018, the CPS has investigated 69 hate based incidents, including 20 in 2022 alone. 

Since April, 2021, charges of hate crimes or hate motivated crimes have been laid against individuals on 5 of the reported incidents.
