NUMEROUS CHARGES LAID IN RELATION TO ROBBERY, BREAK AND ENTER

Cornwall, ON – Cornwall Police Service officers have arrested three individuals who face numerous charges in relation to a recent robbery and break and enter.

The incident occurred in the City of Cornwall on the evening of Feb. 20, 2025.

It is alleged the men attended the residence of an individual known to them, broke into the residence while disguised and robbed the man with a barreled weapon. It is also alleged the men confined the individual and assaulted him with a weapon.

Police were contacted and an investigation ensued.

On Feb. 21, 2025, James Stevenson, 57, of Cornwall, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Break and enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Conspiracy to commit indictable offence
  • Robbery using firearm (restricted or prohibited)
  • Disguise with intent
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Carless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Firearm – use while committing offence
  • Forcible confinement
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

It is alleged on Feb. 20, 2025, the man was also bound by a probation order with the relevant condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

On Feb. 21, 2025, he was located by CPS officers who were on general patrol. The man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

The CPS continued to investigate the incident.

On Feb. 24, 2025, Shaine Robertson, 37, of Cornwall, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Fail to comply with appearance notice
  • Two counts of fail to comply with release order
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Break and enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Conspiracy to commit indictable offence
  • Robbery using firearm (restricted or prohibited)
  • Disguise with intent
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Carless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Firearm – use while committing offence
  • Forcible confinement
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

It is also alleged on Nov. 7, 2024, the man was bound by a release order with the relevant condition to report to the bail supervision program. He failed to do so and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Furthermore, it is alleged on Dec. 5, 2024, the man was scheduled to attend police headquarters for fingerprinting and failed to do so. Another warrant was issued for his arrest. Finally, it is alleged on Feb. 20, 2025, the man was bound by a prohibition order with the relevant condition to not possess any firearm.

On Feb. 24, 2025, the man was located by members of the Criminal Investigation Division and Community Patrol Division. He was taken into custody, the warrants were executed and he was charged accordingly. The man was held for a bail hearing.

On Feb. 24, 2025, Dustin Rayat, 37, of Cornwall, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Break and enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Conspiracy to commit indictable offence
  • Robbery using firearm (restricted or prohibited)
  • Disguise with intent
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Carless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Firearm – use while committing offence
  • Forcible confinement
  • Pointing a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid
  • Possession for the purpose of distributing

On Feb. 24, 2025, the man was located by members of the Criminal Investigation Division and Community Patrol Division. Further investigation revealed the man was in possession of 30.5 grams of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl.

He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.
